"A place to believe, a place to belong; a place to grow and a place to serve."
Communion
". . . the gifts of God for the people of God . . . "
Why come to Communion? It's a question that many of us may be asking. In reply, these are the words of welcome and invitation that are used here in Old Gourock and Ashton:
"Come to this table, not because you must but because you may, not because you are strong but because you are weak.
Come not because any goodness of your own gives you the right to come, but because you need mercy and help.
Come because you love the Lord a little and would like to love him more.
Come, because he loved you and gave himself for you.
Come and meet the risen Christ for we are his body"
The "main" Communion Service takes place twice a year, normally on the last Sunday of the months of April and October. On these occasions we have two services, one at 11 am and the other at 3 pm.
The sacrament is also celebrated within the Memorial Aisle after the 11 am service on the last Sunday of the remaining months – see our weekly Service Sheet for up-to-date information.
Communion is also provided in the local Residential Care and Nursing Homes as well as homes of members of the congregation who are housebound.
If you are housebound and would like to celebrate Holy Communion in your own home, please speak to your District Elder giving them your telephone number so that the Minister can phone you in advance and arrange a time and date to suit.
